The Balance of Life

CASE STUDIES

Charlotte and Tim were having a very stressful time. Charlotte felt it was becoming more and more difficult to cope with her anger and sadness of not being able to have children naturally. The couple were beginning to feel that their relationship was falling apart and they were unable to move forward. Tim didn't want to focus on fertility all the time but Charlotte felt it helped her to talk about it. They decided they needed different things to cope, Charlotte started counselling and found almost immediately her stress levels began to diminish. She felt she had the space and found the sessions to be a positive process, a safe environment where she was never judged or made to feel silly. It was a time that Charlotte was able to focus on how she was feeling and work out strategies to cope with her situation. Most importantly Charlotte began to feel she had regained control of her life and feelings - it gave her the strength to go on to face a treatment cycle.

Susie and Jack had experienced repeated early miscarriages after the third one they visited their GP who ran some standard blood tests. All the tests came back normal - this was when Susie and Rob contacted the Natural Fertility Clinic. As their fertility problems were unexplained the Fertility Therapist told the couple that in these situations it is often little things that can tip the balance. The body needs to be looked at as a whole in order to ensure it is as receptive as possible to a pregnancy. With this in mind the couples diets, lifestyles and stress levels were modified to ensure they were conducive to conceiving. Susie and Rob were put on individual diet and supplement plans, they were given lifestyle changes to implement and stratagies to reduce their stress levels. Susie became pregnant within 3 months of starting on the plan, this pregnancy went to full term and the couple now have a baby boy.

Natalie and Harry decided to look at improving their fertility naturally after several attempts at IVF. Each attempt had seemed to go well, but after further investigations it became apparent Harry had a sperm DNA fragmentation problem. It was thought that this may have been causing the IVF to be unsuccessful. Natalie and Harry both visited the Natural Fertility Clinic, the therapist ensured Harry was on a diet and supplement plan to improve his DNA fragmentation and boost his fertility in general. Natalie was finding the whole journey stressful and the two week wait very difficult to cope with. Natalie was put on a diet to ensure her body would be as receptive as possible to a pregnancy, she was given supplements to not only improve fertility, but to support her whole system whilst under strain. At this point both Natalie and Harry were also given stress reduction techniques and their lifestyle was examined and ideas of ways to improve it with regards to fertility suggested. After 3 months on the plan Natalie felt much more able to cope with another round of treatment. Harry’s sperm was retested and his DNA fragmentation problem had been resolved sufficiently for them to undergo another session of IVF. Finally Natalie was given coping strategies to help prepare her for the treatment cycle, during this time she also had a weekly session with the Natural Fertility Therapist for support. After another go at IVF both Natalie and Harry were delighted when their long awaited pregnancy was confirmed.

Wendy and George visited the Natural Fertility Clinic before undergoing a third go of IUI after being diagnosed with unexplained infertility. Wendy found the idea that the problem was unexplained incredibly frustrating, she hated feeling so out of control. At the Natural Fertility Clinic the therapist suggested that in cases like theirs small adjustments could tip the balance to achieving a pregnancy. In all probability it will never be known what caused their problems and it could very possibly be a combination of lots of things. Ensuring that both of their diets and lifestyles were conducive to pregnancy would most certainly help. Both partners were put on an individual dietary and supplement plan. At this point their lifestyles were examined, and suggestions given for improvement. Hair analysis showed that George had moderately high levels of lead in his system which could hinder sperm quality - his supplement plan took this into consideration. The therapist gave both Wendy and George specific ideas on how to reduce stress. Wendy felt her anxiety levels begin to reduce as she felt more in control of the situation and happier that she was being proactive. Wendy and George under took a third go of IUI and are now excitedly awaiting the birth of their first child.
